Room 1, Ms Elwood 18/5/2020

Dear Parents,

I hope you and your families are all well.  As you now have the textbooks, this week’s work will be slightly different. I’ll still post activities for each subject but instead of posting so many worksheets, I’ll try to include pages in the books as much as possible. I’ll also post new activities throughout the week on Seesaw and these will be linked to the work for the week. I look forward to seeing all the wonderful work!

Please click here for this week’s work.

This week’s Zoom chat will be on Tuesday at 2pm for those who can make it.  I’m going to do a mini handwriting lesson so please ensure your child has the handwriting copy and a pencil ready. We’ll still have our usual chat and a game but there will also be a short demo of this week’s handwriting. As we are now working on cursive (joined) writing, the children are not familiar with the letter formation. If your child cannot take part, he/she can do handwriting in the copy in his/her own time. If your child is taking part, please wait until after the lesson to do this week’s handwriting activities.  Login details will be sent in an email. Please ensure to use these new login details and not those of previous meetings.

As always, please continue to email me and communicate through Seesaw. I look forward to hearing from you.

All the best,

Bairbre Elwood

Dear Parents,

Please click here to view this week’s work.

I hope you are all well. I am really missing the children and miss teaching them every day. I will continue to do video chats with the children and will try to include little bits of learning each week too. This week we will have our chat on Thursday at the later time of 2pm, as the morning time does not suit everyone. I look forward to seeing lots of the children then. It’s become the highlight of my week! I’ll send the login details on Wednesday.

I know Saturday should have been Communion day for lots of the children in the class. I’m sure they are disappointed but hope they are looking forward to having their special day when the time is right. In the meantime, the 2nd class team have recorded a short video message for the children just to send our best wishes to them. Click here to view the video message.

Please continue to email me if I can be of any support or to share your child’s work. Lots of the children have now signed up to Seesaw and it’s a great way for them to share their work with me. There is no pressure on anyone to sign up but it is never too late to join! Please send me an email if your child would like to take part.

All the best,

Bairbre Elwood

Ms Elwood’s class 5/5/20

Dear Parents,

I hope you and your families are all well. Please click on this link to view the work for this week. As always, pick and choose what suits. I will continue to post activities on Seesaw throughout the week. If you have not signed up for Seesaw and would like to do so, you can contact me any time. If not, please feel free to email me with questions or to share your child’s work. We will have another video chat at 10am on Thursday. The login details will be the same as last week but I will send  another email with the details. Hope to see lots of the children then!

Bishop Denis has sent this message for the First Holy Communion children. There are activities to do at home included in this week’s work.

I would encourage those making their First Holy Communion to watch the special mass for 1st Holy Communion Children on Sunday 10th May at 11am. There will be a message from Ms O’Connor and the 2nd Class team and special prayers for all of you. You can view it on the Parish webcam. http://www.newbridgeparish.ie/

Best wishes to you all,

Bairbre Elwood

B Elwood Monday 27th April 2020

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well. PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR THIS WEEK’S WORK. As always, please treat this as a menu and only do what works for you and your child.

It was so lovely to see the faces of those who could join the video call on Thursday! I know not everyone could make it but I will be doing another call at the same time this week, 10am on Thursday. I’ll send the login details by email later in the week and will also post them on Seesaw.

For those of you on Seesaw, I will keep posting activities throughout the week so please keep checking in. This also works like a menu so your child can do the activities that suit. The activities are much the same as the activities here but there are more ways for the children to communicate easily with me and to share their work. Thanks to all those who have already taken part. It is so lovely to see the responses from the kids! Anyone not on Seesaw and who wants to join, please send me an email and I’ll send you the login details for your child.

As this week is #ActiveHomeWeek, I will be including some physical activities for each day this week. These activities could be done or any other physical activity your child enjoys! (Click here for more info.)

For those of you looking for ways to give your children independent reading time, I highly recommend the online program ‘READING EGGS‘ which is is an online program with games, activities and online books matched to your child’s reading level. They are offering a free trial at the moment. We have also done this list of suggestions for sourcing online reading material: http://www.scmj.ie/online-books-for-reading-at-home/.

Wishing you and your families well. Looking forward to seeing some of the children again this week and to seeing more of the great work they are doing at home. As always, if you need any support or your child would like to send me some work, please get in touch. I’d love to hear from them!

20/4/2020 Ms Elwood

I hope you all enjoyed the Easter holidays and that you and your family are safe and well. There is a link below with work suggestions for this week. As always, this is just a list of suggestions or a menu of ideas. It does not have to all be completed. Please do what works for you and your child.

I am hoping to facilitate more contact between the children and I so have two things I am setting up this week. Firstly I will be setting up ‘Seesaw’ as a means for communicating with the children and for them to share their work with me. This is optional. If interested, please email me (bairbre.elwood@scmj.ie) with your child’s name and I will send you a code and instructions for how to sign up. Secondly, I will be hosting a video chat on Thursday at 10am for any child in the class who would like to join in! Again, email me if your child would like to participate and I’ll send you the link and instructions to join the chat. This will be a trial but hopefully it will go well! I can’t wait to see some of their faces again! It won’t be a lesson but simply a chat and a chance to catch up. This is entirely optional.

As always please feel free to email me with any questions or if you need any support or indeed to share some work your child has been doing. I always love to hear from them.

Best wishes,
